San Jose Sharks coach David Quinn made a bit of a declaration after seeing his team lose its eighth straight game.“It’s going to stop, I’ll tell you that right now,” Quinn said after the Sharks were smoked 7-2 by the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. “It may not stop this year, but it will stop soon.”No one’s kidding themselves within the Sharks organization. The Sharks have 10 games left this season and will be an underdog in every one of them, starting with Saturday’s game in Calgary against the desperate Flames. But Quinn and the players still want to at least give themselves a chance at success, something that’s been happening with less and less frequency over the last five-plus weeks.Thursday in Vancouver, through a combination of turnovers, some lackluster defense, and questionable goaltending, the Sharks are now 2-12-4 since a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals on Super Bowl Sunday.Turnovers by Sharks center Tomas Hertl led to the Canucks’ first an...Bay Area storm cleanup: Roads closed for cleanup ahead of next storm

Thursday night, Mother Nature delivered a rare sight in the skies of Virginia (and perhaps the whole D.C. region): the Northern Lights or Aurora.Social media was posting pics from various locations around the world, including the U.S., and Virginia. The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center issued alerts throughout the evening for ongoing G3 and G4 (Severe and highest level) Geomagnetic Storms. For the G4 Alert issued just after midnight, NOAA stated, “Aurora – Aurora may be seen as low as Alabama and northern California.”I was able to photograph the Aurora from my backyard in Central Virginia using my iPhone Pro Max 13 in “Night Sky Mode.” I really couldn’t see the Aurora visually, but could using the iPhone. It is possible the Aurora will be visible again Friday night, but the terrestrial weather and the D.C. area’s more southerly location isn’t very promising for clear skies .More Science NewsThe Space PlaceThis is ...Israeli AG warns Netanyahu broke law on conflict of interest

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s attorney general on Friday warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he has violated the country’s law on conflict of interest, which barred him from direct involvement in his government’s divisive plans for a judicial overhaul while standing trial for corruption. Netanyahu’s far-right government has barreled ahead with plans to weaken the Supreme Court and grant politicians less judicial oversight in their policymaking despite massive protests from across Israeli society — including an uproar among business leaders, top legal officials and military reservists. On Thursday, just hours after his coalition passed a law that would protect the Israeli leader from being deemed unfit to rule because of his corruption trial and claims of a conflict of interest, Netanyahu defiantly pledged to proceed with the overhaul.Netanyahu contended that stripping the attorney general of the power to remove him from office was necessary to clear the way f...Metro Transit Police’s body-worn camera program to start in April

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — It’s been more than a decade of disappointments for Spain following the team’s golden era that netted the 2010 World Cup title and two European championships. Now, with a new coach in charge, the team that once took a possession-based attack to its maximum expression with its “tiki-taka” passing style will have yet another chance to breathe new life into a system that again looked outdated at last year’s World Cup. Luis de la Fuente has made it a priority to solve the team’s scoring problems since he was promoted from Spain’s Under-21 team to replace Luis Enrique in December, and he will get his first test on Saturday in Malaga when Spain hosts Norway in their first qualifying match for the 2024 European championship. Three days later, Spain will play Scotland in Glasgow. De la Fuente has overhauled the squad that only managed one win in Qatar and went out in the round-of-16 against Morocco. That defeat felt like déjà vu for Spain fans, comi...Latest news
