INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana schools may soon be required to notify parents if their children request a name or pronoun change at school, after the state Senate on Monday advanced a House bill that some worry could out transgender kids to their families. The Republican-dominated state Senate’s 37-12 vote came after intense committee hearings where residents derided the measure as an attack on the state’s LGBTQ+ students, especially trans youth. Like Indiana, Republican-led legislatures around the country have been seeking to curb LGBTQ+ rights, especially in targeting transgender individuals’ everyday life — including sports, health care, workplaces and schools.Under the Indiana bill, which the House first sent to the Senate in February, a school would have to provide written notification to a child’s parent or guardian within five business days of the child asking to be called a different “pronoun, title, or word.” Supporters say this approach would empower pa...White Sox lose Anderson but hold on to beat Twins 4-3

(NEXSTAR) – The majority of the world’s population will experience some form of gradual hair loss or thinning over the courses of their lives. But when it doesn’t seem so gradual — and suddenly starts falling out excessively — it usually indicates something other than hereditary hair loss. Some dermatologists say they’ve been hearing these exact concerns more frequently in recent years, and it’s no surprise why: Of the many causes of sudden hair loss, a high fever and stress are among some of the most common.“There is no doubt that COVID presented this double-whammy to the system,” Dr. Mary Lupo, a board-certified dermatologist and an adjunct faculty member at Tulane University, told Nexstar. Have the odds of getting long COVID changed? COVID, Lupo said, resulted in patients experiencing not only physiological stresses on the body but also psychological stressors. Just one of these, however, could be enough to trigger delayed hair loss several months later. At any given time, the ha...Does your state allow teachers to carry a gun?

(NEXSTAR) - Following a shooting that left six dead, including three children, at The Covenant School in Nashville, there have been renewed calls to have armed teachers in schools. Some states have already enacted laws allowing this while others are hoping to do so. In 2013, just a few months after the deadly Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, South Dakota became the first state to enact a law allowing school employees to carry guns, The New York Times reports. Since then, roughly 30 states have enacted similar legislation, according to data collected by the Giffords Law Center. ‘Good guys with guns’ – do they help stop shooters? Here’s what data says Only 16 states currently prohibit teachers from carrying a firearm: Alabama, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, as well as the District of Columbia. TEXAS (KXAN) -- An unusual furry friend paid a visit to the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park last week and has perplexed visitors since. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department posted a night camera shot of the critter on its Facebook page Thursday, which has since garnered traction online."We're scratching our heads trying to identify this elusive creature. Is it a new species? An escapee from a nearby zoo? Or just a park ranger in disguise?" park officials said in the tongue-in-cheek post.Officials added the animal is likely an American badger, different from the honey badger that is native to Africa and Asia. "While Americans Badgers are not commonly seen in the valley (partly due to their nocturnal behavior), this is part of their natural range," the post concluded.‘Peter Pan,’ ‘Hairspray’ and the return of the smash ‘SIX’ among the shows in the Ordway’s new Broadway season

With Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa and Joey Gallo on the bench Monday afternoon — the former eventually came in to pinch hit and the latter two are dealing with day-to-day injuries — and White Sox ace Dylan Cease on the mound, the Twins were in for an uphill battle before the first pitch of Monday’s game was thrown. The Twins tried to claw their way up that hill, scratching together three runs against Cease — the last time they faced him, Cease came within one out of a no-hitter — but it wasn’t enough. The Twins fell into a hole in the fourth inning and never recovered, despite some gifted opportunities from the White Sox, in a 4-3 loss on Monday afternoon at Target Field.“Our bench obviously was pretty stacked today with good players that needed a day or two to get back to close to full strength,” manager Rocco Baldelli said. “Sometimes you come to the park and you have to find other ways to win.”But on Monday, they were unable to.After White Sox (5-6) third baseman Hanser Alber...Latest news
