Ask Amy: Modern family unit faces a “Rebecca”
Published Mon, 16 Dec 2024 19:54:26 GMT
Dear Amy: I need your objective opinion.I’m a divorced mom of two and last year, my boyfriend moved in with me, followed by his daughter (age 12). I love them both very much.I helped him through his alcoholism, which stemmed from a tragic event. His first wife, “Rebecca,” died shortly after they got married. More tragic was that when she died, she was expecting their first child together. After some time, he went on to marry another woman and had his daughter. That wife got involved in drugs and cheated on him.His health deteriorated and he ended up having life-saving surgery. He now has a great job, no longer drinks, and we are generally happy. The issue is that he often brings up his first wife. He has a pendant of her face on their wedding day hanging in his car. He has also brought me and his daughter to her grave site, which also includes a photo of him and a burial spot right next to her.He once made a comment that if she hadn’t died, we wouldn’t be together, a...Italy rescues 32 migrants stuck on desert island via helicopter

Italy’s Coast Guard said on Monday (3 April) that it had to use a helicopter to rescue 32 migrants stranded on a deserted island in the central Mediterranean. The Coast Guard stated that picking migrants from Lampione (part of the same archipelago) proved difficult via sea because of "particularly adverse" weather and sea conditions.According to the statement, the helicopter transported the migrants to Lampedusa. This is the traditional landing place for sea migrants arriving from Libya and Tunisia.According to ANSA, the migrants who were rescued are from Cameroon and Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, and Mali.Charity Alarm Phone picked up calls from boats carrying migrants in distress Monday morning. It reported that a boat with approximately 500 people needed to be rescued in international waters off Libya.A fatal shipwreck occurred in February when Italian police boats failed o intercept a migrant vessel in rough seas close to the coast of southern Calabria.Over 90 people were killed, an...Better cancer care around the EU: It's in reach, but still to be grasped – Register now: CAN.HEAL Stakeholder Conference, Roma, 26-27 April, 2023

Science and technology are constantly widening new understanding and providing better tools to tackle cancer. Nowhere is this happening faster than in cancer, and pioneering work is being done across the EU, writes European Alliance for Personalised Medicine (EAPM) Executive Director Denis Horgan.Genome and epigenome profiling and large-scale molecular profiling are redefining both the way cancers are categorized and, increasingly, the way they are being treated, as molecular alterations are emerging as powerful prognostic markers and targets. Rules are emerging for analysis of treatment outcomes are analysed, and molecular targets are being used to ensure an increased quality of life for the patients. But availability is not the same as accessibility. Many children, adolescents and adults around the EU still receive inadequate diagnosis, treatment and support. The evolution across the EU is uneven in its pace and scope – a diversity echoed too in the capabilities of disti...Presale Codes for NF Hope Tour with Cordae

While still a student at UC Irvine School of Law, Cheyenne Hunt clerked for Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, working on the Judiciary Committee and witnessing firsthand the first impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump. It was that “unforgettable” experience, she said, that cemented her desire to run for office. And that means Hunt, a Fullerton resident and TikTok influencer, is the latest to announce her candidacy for California’s 45th congressional district represented by GOP Rep. Michelle Steel — a race that’s heating up fast.Hunt found while working in Washington, D.C., she said, that not everybody is motivated by the issues that are keeping people in her community up at night.“Working on (Capitol) Hill showed me the ways in which our system is designed to prioritize justice and to treat nobody as if they are above the law,” said Hunt, who works in tech policy for Public Citizen, a progressive advocacy group.“But it also showed me the ways in which our lawmakers are not n...California man convicted for role in Jan. 6 Capitol riot

A social media post from a Fullerton junior high school student holding what appeared to be a handgun set off a chain of events Monday that led parents to panic, with 250 parents rushing to campus to pull out their kids.By Tuesday, 228 of Nicolas Junior High’s 630 students were still staying home. And some 150 parents, many upset about what they said was inadequate notification from the school, showed up to a town hall meeting on campus, demanding answers — and changes.Parents, and a couple of students, mistakenly thought there was a gunman at the school. Parents were getting texts Monday from their children that said, “There’s a shooter on campus.”“It was very apocalyptic,” parent Maria Cardenas said, describing how some parents were running to school to grab their children. One student said: “I felt safe in the beginning. But once I saw my friends leaving, I got scared.”There wasn’t an active shooter; the student who sent the original social media post was still at home, where loca...Latest news
