Bally's Casino, a first for Chicago, celebrates official launch in River North CHICAGO — Chicago's first casino formally celebrated its launch Tuesday morning with a ribbon-cutting, marking a new era for the city. Bally's opened to the public on Sept. 9, calling the Medinah Temple in River North its new temporary home.  Bally’s Casino temporary location officially opens The city's first casino features almost 800 slot machines and nearly 60 table games across three floors. The gaming revenue taxes will support the city's police and fire pension funds. More than 700 permanent jobs have been created for casino operations. Driver dies after crashing into construction truck on MoPac AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A 26-year-old died last week after crashing into a construction truck on MoPac, according to the Austin Police Department. According to APD, Javier Graves was driving a sedan in the 2900 block of South MoPac Expressway when he crashed into the back of a construction truck. The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. Sept. 27. Graves was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The driver of the construction truck was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, APD said. This incident is being investigated as Austin's 68th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 71 fatalities for the year. (NEWS10) -- The Albany Pine Bush Preserve Commission is seeking help with collecting data to help track changing weather patterns. Neighbors within half a mile of the preserve can help by measuring the depth of snow in their own backyard or at their workplace. By tracking and understanding weather patterns, the Commission can take steps to improve the long-term survival of the Karner blue butterfly and other rare wildlife in the preserve.
