ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Office of General Services (OGS) has announced the headliner for New York State’s 47th Independence Day celebration at the Empire State Plaza. GRANVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The Granville Community Foundation, a nonprofit in its second full year of supporting community businesses and organizations in the eastern Washington County town, has made its next round of grant decisions. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has released the 2022 deer harvest estimates with New York hunters harvesting an estimated 231,961 deer during the 2022 hunting seasons. The 231,961 estimate is a 10% increase from last year, says DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Among the 2022-23 estimated deer take, the numbers included 116,425 antlered bucks and 115,536 antlerless deer. The DEC says there was a five-percent increase in antlered buck harvest and a 15% increase in antlerless deer harvest from last season. The DEC says nearly 2,300 deer were harvested by youth hunters during the Youth Hunt Weekend, a 38% increase from 2021. With the great Colorado snowmelt of 2023 in progress, a large mudslide that occurred Monday afternoon has caused the temporary closure of the Hanging Lake Rest Area in Glenwood Canyon. The trail to Hanging Lake and the lake itself were not affected, but they will be inaccessible until the slide debris is removed.People with reservations to hike the Hanging Lake trail are being notified by the concessionaire that runs the reservation system for the U.S. Forest Service, H2O Ventures.
