When the weather turns nasty, the NFL becomes nastier.Leave that “basketball on turf” nonsense for the sunshine. When it’s cold, and the games really matter, they’re won or lost in the trenches by the big uglies on the offensive line and defensive line.It warms my heart. If you’re a 49ers fan, watching the performance of San Francisco’s offensive and defensive lines in Sunday’s win over the Eagles likely warmed your heart, too. Both units were outstanding. And that should set a tone for the rest of the season, as the Niners fight for the NFC’s No. 1 seed.Related ArticlesSan Francisco 49ers | NFC playoff picture: Don’t get too carried away with 49ers’ big win over tired Eagles San Francisco 49ers | 49ers-Seahawks preview: What you need to know for Week 14 rematch San Francisco 49ers | 49ers’ Shanahan: No hard feelings against Eagles’ security director; NFL investigating Gr...One dead in East Bay crash on Interstate 680

Tommy Tuberville of Alabama said Tuesday he is releasing the bulk of his holds for Senate votes to confirm military promotions.Tuberville told his colleagues in a closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill that he will release the promotions for three-star nominees and below, the vast majority of the nominees. The move comes after he faced bipartisan pressure to cease his blanket hold on military promotions over a Defense Department reproductive rights policy. Tuberville’s hold started in March and delayed the confirmations of more than 450 top military nominees.Tuberville made the announcement that he was backing off the military holds with the exception of fewer than a dozen four star promotions during Senate lunch. He said it was important that Republicans be united and not vote for a rules changes that would have allowed Schumer to bring up nominees en bloc.Related ArticlesNational Politics | With 32nd tie-breaker, VP Harris breaks nearly 20...At least 1 dead in multi-vehicle crash on 680 near Pacheco
