WASHINGTON, D.C. (WDCW) – A former United States Postal Service (USPS) worker has been charged with stealing checks from the mail — a scheme that netted him nearly $1.7 million over the course of 18 months.In a news release issued Friday, the D.C. U.S. Attorney's Office said Hachikosela Muchimba, 43, of Washington, D.C., was charged with mail theft and bank fraud.Muchimba was accused of depositing checks from the mail into his own bank account between October 2021 and March 2023. Michimba had been working at a D.C. branch of the United States Postal Service since 2020. He was placed on off-duty status in March, following the launch of a federal investigation. TENNESSEE COLONY, Texas (KETK) - A man serving two life sentences for capital murder in an East Texas prison was murdered by his cellmate, Texas Department of Criminal Justice officials said.50-year-old Billy Chemirmir was found dead in his cell at the Coffield Unit in Tennessee Colony early Tuesday morning.Chemirmir was serving two life sentences without parole for two counts of capital murder out of Dallas County. The 2023 Great American Beer Festival may not have garnered as much hype as previous years, but Colorado breweries made their most impressive showing in recent memory at the awards, which took place Saturday morning.Judges evaluated 9,300 beers from more than 2,033 breweries in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, competition director Chris Williams said. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office continues to search for a 57-year old Fresno man who went missing Thursday night while on a fishing trip.Chang Cheng was last seen after fishing with family about 7 p.m. at the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area, near Highway 152 and Vista Point, according to Merced County Sheriff’s Deputy Alexandra Britton.“He was fishing with family members and he told them he was leaving,” Britton said. “When his family members got to where they parked, his car was still there. They looked for him and couldn’t find him.”Britton says family members reported him missing about 3 a.m. Friday.Sheriff’s Office search and rescue teams worked the area on Friday and Saturday.Britton says they’ve received help from other counties and the Coast Guard.Cheng stands 5 feet, 6 inches and weighs 165 pounds.
