BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is described as a disease predominantly in women where the cells in the breast grow out of control, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Radiologic technologist Kelly Vessel works at an imaging facility in Baton Rouge. She provided a few early signs and symptoms of breast cancer to look for."When checking for early signs of breast cancer, look for new lumps or masses, swelling of the breasts, nipple or breast pain, swollen lymph nodes under the arm and near the collar bone, nipple discharge, other than milk, and skin dimpling," said Vessel. What to know before your mammogramThe American Cancer Society (ACS) recommends women ages 40 and older to consider getting a breast cancer screening, or a mammogram. A mammogram is a type of X-ray used to check for early signs of breast cancer. When preparing for a mammogram, bring previous records if possible, schedule your...Vikings tried Tush Push with quarterback Kirk Cousins. It didn’t go so well.

It was almost as if the Vikings asked themselves, “What would the Philadelphia Eagles do?”After rookie receiver Jordan Addison drew a pass interference penalty in the end zone, the Vikings got the ball at 1-yard line against the San Francisco 49ers with a chance to take a big lead on Monday Night Football.Everybody knows what the Eagles would have done in that situation. They would have opted for their signature play —- the Tush Push —- which has become inevitable in short-yardage situations. It has worked so well, in fact, that some people actually think it’s unfair. You wouldn’t know it by watching the Vikings try it against the 49ers. On consecutive plays near the goal line, the Vikings tried the Tush Push with quarterback Kirk Cousins. After getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage, they lined up to do it again, and got called for a false start.“It should be repeatable,” Cousins said. “You’d like to think that it could be done by any team...State police issue nearly 100 warnings since Missouri's hands-free law took effect

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Buckle up, phone down. A new law in Missouri and now state police and families impacted by distracted drivers are challenging Missourians.Since the end of August, drivers of all ages have been prohibited from holding their phones to text, call, or scroll on social media while behind the wheel. Missouri was one of the last states in the country to enact this law. Those who lost their loved ones are just happy their voice has been heard."It's on the sign," Adrienne Siddens said. "I'm so proud of the buckle up, phone down signs that now say 'state law.' It's really powerful, and it's really exciting to be able to say we're no longer the last state waiting for this."In May 2019, Adrienne received a phone call no one wanted to get. Her husband, Randall, a father of three, was struck by a distracted driver while picking up cones after a triathlon race in Columbia."The woman driving the car that hit Randall was video chatting, speeding, and not paying attention to sto...Heat Up St. Louis honors FOX 2 meteorologists with public safety award

Sean Payton is worried about Sunday, not Tuesday.Sunday, of course, the Broncos host Kansas City as eight-point underdogs but with a chance to end the Chiefs’ 16-game winning streak against Denver.Tuesday, then, is the NFL’s trade deadline.Could the difference between 2-6 and 3-5 alter Denver’s decision on whether to try to sell on the trade market at the deadline?“No, no, no,” Payton said. “(The deadline) is next week sometime, I think. But no. We’re focused on winning with this group and these guys here. We went through this in the offseason, too, and it’s the news cycle and it’s part of the deal.“But no, not at all.”Payton has said previously that the Broncos will listen when teams call and ask about players but that they’re not actively shopping. The number of players who come up in discussions, of course, far outstrips the actual number of transactions that take place. A year ago, there were 10 trades executed on Nov. 1 — including Denver sending Bradley Chubb to Miami for...Apartments next to Lakewood’s Belmar Park face backlash, but city leaders take no action

Lakewood City Council spent nearly four hours Monday night listening to members of the public and then debating what, if anything, to do about a proposed apartment complex adjacent to a city park. The process clearly exasperated some council members.“This is a do-nothing council … this council is horrible,” Councilman Rich Olver said at one point.“I won’t sit idly by and take that from someone who didn’t show up at the annual planning meeting until midway in, someone who does not participate,” Councilwoman Barb Franks responded. The exchange relates to 4.5 acres at 777 S. Yarrow St., where San Antonio-based developer Kairoi Residential wants to build a 412-unit apartment project with over 500 parking spaces. The company purchased the site with CT Corp. in 2021 for $6 million. The property houses a large parking lot and vacant office building. Tucked a block away from Wadsworth Boulevard, it backs into, but is not part of, the 132-acre Belmar Park. It offers direct access to the park’s ...Colorado football: Buffs focus on positives ahead of matchup with UCLA

Colorado knows it let a golden opportunity slip away the last time it played a football game.As the Buffaloes (4-3, 1-3 Pac-12) prepare for a matchup at No. 23 UCLA (5-2, 2-2) on Saturday (5:30 p.m. MT, ABC), they haven’t forgotten the disappointment of their last performance. The best and worst of the Buffs were on display during a 46-43 double overtime loss to Stanford on Oct. 13, and they are aiming to learn from that disappointment.“A hard, hard, tough loss at home against Stanford,” tight ends coach Tim Brewster said Wednesday. “And, hopefully, we’ve learned some really good lessons. I think the bottom line is this: still understanding how you have to play 60 minutes in a football game.”Related Articles Football: CU Buffs begin post-bye stretch run CU Buffs coach Deion Sanders on sign-stealing in college football: “Everyone’s trying to get an edge” CU Buffs announce Oregon State game time, channel AP co...8 Colorado high school football games to watch in Week 10
