Salem Hospital has notified some endoscopy patients after officials found they may have been exposed to infectious diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis B and C, officials said Wednesday. Salem Hospital addressed the situation in a statement, saying the hospital was made aware earlier this year of “an isolated practice involving a small portion of endoscopy practices who were potentially exposed to infection due to the administration of their intravenous medication in a manner not consistent with our best practice.”A hospital spokesperson in a subsequent statement said the situation affected nearly 450 patients over a period of roughly two years between June 2021 and April of this year.Salem Hospital said the IV practice was immediately corrected after being identified. Hospital quality and infection control teams were also notified.7NEWS learned one person involved in the situation now no longer works at Salem Hospital.“After a comprehensive review, including feedback from public...Boston mother outraged after son living with autism was given flu shot at school without parental permission

A Boston mother is speaking out after her son, who has autism, was given a flu shot at school despite her wishes. The school told Gabriela Gomes her son’s consent form was overlooked. Speaking with 7NEWS, Gomes recently shared her reaction. “I’m traumatized since that happened,” she said. Gomes’s 21-year-old son Sean goes to Boston Community Leadership Academy, which held a vaccine clinic in October. Gabriela Gomes said she checked off “no” on Sean’s flu shot consent form. Her selection of “no” on the consent form should have exempted her son from getting the vaccine. But, after the clinic, she was surprised to find Sean holding his arm, only to learn he had been vaccinated. “For him to get a needle without me there — I’ve seen what happens,” Gabriela said. “He goes out of breath. He panics and it shouldn’t have been done without me, period.” “It did hurt,” Sean said. Asked by his mother if he was scared, Sean responded.“Yeah, I was,” he said.&nbs...Solve It 7: Refund Runaround

A Bellingham man ordered some golf clubs he thought weren’t quite up to par. He says he got a refund runaround when he tried to return them, so he contacted Solve It Seven. Brandon Gunnoe has the story. After he retired, Jim Vincini decided hitting the links would be a perfect hobby.“What do I love about it? Well, more than anything, it’s probably just getting together. Because during retirement, a lot of times, you don’t see any of the people that you knew before, and I can hold my own with a lot of the guys,” Jim said. Hoping to improve his game Jim bought a set of four clubs from an online golf company.“I’m always thinking I could use a few more yards on my swing on my distance,” Jim said. He called in his order and paid about $500.“The man I talked to said, okay, but the deal is we’re going to send you four clubs. Try them out. Keep them for a while. If you’re not satisfied, send them back, an...Zach LaVine doesn’t deny the latest trade rumors. What does that mean for the 2-time All-Star — and the Chicago Bulls?

Zach LaVine isn’t denying the rumors anymore. For the last three years, LaVine has been quick to shut down any talk of a move away from the Chicago Bulls. But a day after a report by The Athletic suggested mutual interest in pursuing a trade, LaVine on Wednesday didn’t clear the smoke while speaking with reporters at a shootaround at the Advocate Center.LaVine did not outright answer whether he requested a trade. But he made it clear that frustration with a lack of winning has reached a new level. The Bulls entered their game against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday at the United Center at 4-7.“My camp talks to (the front office) all the time,” LaVine said. “It’s not like we’re not in a good relationship or a good talking space. We understand the business of basketball — I do more than most people. People talk. I’ve been in trade talks for a long time, so I understand the situation, but once news is always broken it’s a big th...Ravens vs. Bengals staff picks: Who will win Thursday’s Week 11 game in Baltimore?

Expect to see a good dose of the thunder and lightning combo of Gus Edwards and Keaton Mitchell, along with some runs sprinkled in by Lamar Jackson. Still, these teams usually play each other close with the average margin of victory in their past four meetings, including last year’s wild-card game, a shade under six points.Mike Preston, columnistRavens 21, Bengals 17: The Ravens rebound after getting pushed around by Cleveland last week. They were embarrassed and need to bounce back. The visiting team is also at a big disadvantage because it’s a short week and they have one less day to prepare because they are on the road. The Ravens will be without their top offensive lineman for Thursday night’s crucial matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals at M&T Bank Stadium.Left tackle Ronnie Stanley, who injured his knee in last week’s loss to the Cleveland Browns and did not practice all week, was ruled out Wednesday for the AFC North showdown. Patrick Mekari will start in his place. It will mark the fourth missed game this season for Stanley, a 2019 All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection who signed a five-year, $112.8 million extension in 2020 that makes him one of the highest paid offensive linemen in the NFL. That includes the Ravens’ Week 2 game in Cincinnati, which Baltimore hung on to win, 27-24.Still, his absence could be problematic for the Ravens (7-3), who will get back right tackle Morgan Moses after he missed two games with a shoulder injury. Earlier Wednesday, Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, whose 8 1/2 sacks are the fifth-most in the NFL, was not given an injury designation, me...Camp Pendleton Marine accused of teen sex assault to be tried in court martial

VANCOUVER — British Columbia’s Centre for Disease Control says there have been eight confirmed cases of a rare strain of salmonella in the province since mid-November.The centre says in a statement that the outbreak has been linked to imported cantaloupes sold under the label “Malichita” that should be disposed of and not consumed. It says the cases cover people ranging in age from less than a year to 68 years old, living in the Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health and Island Health regions.Symptoms of the illness include diarrhea, abdominal pain and sometimes fever, nausea and vomiting. The centre says B.C.’s cases show a link to recalled cantaloupes elsewhere in Canada and the United States and on Tuesday the Canadian Food Inspection Agency updated its recall notice from earlier this month to include B.C.British Columbians are being told to discard Malichita cantaloupes that were sold from Oct. 11 to Nov. 14 as well as any other cantaloupes if their origin is unclear....Latest news
