AUSTIN (Nexstar) -- Just four days after the Texas House voted to prohibit state funding for education savings accounts, the House Committee on Public Education is considering a bill to establish just that.House Bill 4340, by Rep. James Frank, R-Wichita Falls, is the lower chamber's proposal to use state dollars to subsidize educational costs for families looking for alternatives to public education. "The entire discussion around school choice... comes down to perspective in my opinion. Should parents be given options to educate their children?" Frank said to the committee on Tuesday. "When viewed through the eyes of the parent or child, I believe it's hard to come to any other answer than 'yes.'"Frank's bill would establish education savings accounts (ESAs), just like Texas Sen. The event is spearheaded by Mary Lyall, whose daughter Suzanne disappeared 25 years ago. In 2001, Mary and her family established the Center for Hope, which leads national efforts to find missing persons and advocate for preventative laws, including Suzanne’s Law in 2003. ST. LOUIS - Criminal defense attorney David Mueller will run for St. Louis Circuit Attorney next year, making him the first to announce a run against incumbent Kim Gardner. LOUIS - One day after a mass shooting left five dead and several others injured in Louisville, Kentucky, important mass casualty training took place Tuesday morning in St. Louis.The Washington University Emergency Medical Department hosted the training, which took place at the Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park. The scenes may have been staged, but the knowledge that the participants gained is very real.The training went for a couple of hours from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.There were three simulated mass casualty incidents from explosions - one had adult victims only, one incorporated children as victims, and a third was staged as a music festival or a rave where there could be hundreds or even thousands of people including some victims who may be drunk or on drugs. FRONTENAC, Mo. - A man is behind bars on felony charges after a weekend shooting in a Frontenac parking garage. Prosecutors have charged Maurion Rich, 33, with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in the investigation. The victim drove himself to a hospital and was later released after treatment. No one else was hurt in the shooting. An offshore pipeline involved in a 2021 oil spill that fouled Southern California beaches is being put back in service, the operator said.Amplify Energy Corp. said Monday that it received approval from federal regulatory agencies to restart operations and last weekend began the process of filling the pipeline, which is expected to take about two weeks.“Following the line fill process, the pipeline will be operated in accordance with the restart procedures that were reviewed and approved by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration,” the Houston-based company said in a press release.The pipeline carries oil to shore from platforms in San Pedro Bay, near the Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors.Amplify Energy recently announced a settlement with companies associated with two ships it accused of dragging anchors and striking the pipeline during a January 2021 storm, leading to the spill of 25,000 gallons (94,600 liters) of crude oil months later.“The ...Latest news
