STAT WATCH: Colorado State’s penalty problems are not exclusive to their loss to Buffaloes From Colorado State’s perspective, its school-record number of penalties was largely to blame for its devastating loss at Colorado. “I can’t even speak about it, it’s so ridiculous,” coach Jay Norvell said after the 43-35 loss in two overtimes. “And it’s a real shame because a lot of those penalties took away a lot of great effort from our kids.”Saturday night wasn’t a one-off for CSU. The Rams have gone 3-11 under Norvell, and undisciplined play has been a persistent problem.Of the 17 penalties the Rams committed against Colorado, 11 were 15-yarders — two on the same play when Henry Blackburn was flagged for pass interference and Ayden Hector was called for unsportsmanlike conduct after a late hit sent two-way star Travis Hunter to the hospital. There also were four blocks below the waist, two other unsportsmanlike conducts, a chop block, facemask and targeting.CSU’s top three single-game penalty totals have occurred over the past 10 games — 13 ag...

Liz Truss: I didn’t crash the economy LONDON — Liz Truss struck firmly to her guns in a defiant speech Monday as Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister defended her chaotic economic legacy. Addressing the Institute for Government think tank, Truss blamed the media, the opposition Labour Party, and economic orthodoxy for her downfall during her 49 days in office. And she argued that the “reaction” from the “political and economic establishment” to her policies was the reason they failed.Pressed in the Q&A on the claim she “crashed the economy,” Truss shot back: “I do want to challenge this phrase ‘crashed the economy.’“The fact is that since I left office both mortgage rates and gilt rates have gone higher than they were at the time of the mini-budget. So I do think you are repeating a line to take from the Labour Party when you say that.”Truss’ mini-budget — officially billed as the “Plan for Growth” — aimed to slash taxes and cut regulations. But t...

China blasts Germany after Baerbock calls Xi Jinping a ‘dictator’ China on Monday condemned German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock after she labeled Chinese President Xi Jinping a “dictator.”“China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes the German side’s remarks, which are extremely absurd, a serious infringement of China’s political dignity and an open political provocation,” China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Monday according to local news. “China has made serious inquiries to the German side through diplomatic channels,” she added. Last week, Baerbock gave an interview to Fox News underlining Germany’s support for Ukraine — in which she fired a broadside at Xi. “If Putin were to win this war, what sign would that be for other dictators in the world, like Xi, like the Chinese president?” the foreign minister said. In recent months, Baerbock has been a sharp-tongued critic of the Chinese government. She has questioned China’s global ambitio...
